We asked 559 homeowners about their energy use at home — from costs and efficiency to resilience and future expectations. About half had solar, storage, or both, offering first-hand perspectives on these technologies, while others shared how they view and prepare for the possibilities ahead. Together, their responses reveal key trends in sentiment, expectations, and household impact.

This page shares a small selection of highlights from the Home Energy Landscape survey.

Mounting Cost Concerns

Expectations of rising electricity costs are widespread, with over 75% of homeowners expecting higher electric bills in the next five years. Homeowners in the 55+ age group stand out, as they’re twice as likely as the youngest group to anticipate a sharp increase.

Financial Benefits Drive Solar and Storage

When it comes to future home energy investments, cutting monthly energy costs is the clear priority for all households, whether standard, or power limited. However, many also point to energy efficiency and waste reduction, along with improving outage resilience as key drivers.

Efficiency Grows with Energy Maturity

Higher energy maturity combines advanced technology with greater visibility and a more vigilant approach to managing energy use. Solar + storage households lead in reporting high efficiency and low waste, while power-constrained households lag behind.

Smart Investment, Bigger Payoff

Among solar and/or storage households, grouping respondents by a combined measure of usage efficiency and cost control reveals a wide range of savings potential. Top Savers report an average 78% monthly bill reduction — nearly double the savings of the Moderate group and nearly four times that of the Low group.
