CORE Level 2: Operational

Published on ZDNET

For many households, power feels adequate — until it doesn’t. Homes at Level 2 (Operational) on the Habitelligence CORE framework generally meet today’s needs, but they’re also the most exposed to rising costs and grid instability. A recent ZDNET article highlights why millions of households are reconsidering their energy future.

Key insights from the research:

  • 74% of households expect electricity costs to rise over the next five years.

  • 61% experienced multiple outages in the past year, some lasting days.

  • Two-thirds of Level 2 households are now considering solar, storage, or both.

While moving from Level 2 to Level 3 or 4 carries a larger financial commitment, it also brings some of the biggest payoffs: bill savings, resilience against outages, and even higher long-term home value. With federal tax credits set to decline after 2025, many homeowners are looking at solar-plus-storage now — and some are even making the “double jump” straight to Level 4 energy maturity.
